Why COVID-19 Disproportionately Affects the Elderly

age of coronavirus fatalities

Story at-a-glance

  • While the mortality rate for COVID-19 varies around the world, one trend is clear: The infection disproportionately affects the elderly, with those over the age of 75 making up the bulk of the deaths
  • Adults over 65 years of age represent 80% of hospitalizations and have a 23-fold greater risk of death than those under 65
  • In addition to age, underlying health conditions are primary risk factors that raise your risk of death from COVID-19
  • More than 80% of deaths have occurred in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and live-in rehab centers. More than 90% of such residents have at least one chronic disease and more than 70% have two conditions
  • Additional factors that make the elderly more susceptible to dying is an aging immune system, excessive calorie intake and epigenetic changes that occur with age, specifically the dysregulation of the epigenome and changes in glycosylation

The Coronavirus And Its Spread Through Information Suppression

By

Like everyone else I've been bombarded with news and information concerning the "Coronavirus". Can't help feel the pressure from this viral outbreak when you walk into a supermarket and there's no toilet paper. Every type of paper fit to wipe yourself is gone from a panic that is created only by people who live their lives in a panic. There's absolutely no shortages of anything except the shortages that are being created by the panicked people who are hoarding for no good reason. This hoarding causes people who are not panicked to hoard also.
Of course the "Coronavirus" came to the United States via naturalized immigrants who went to Wuhan China to visit their families. Most likely these naturalized U.S. Citizens brought to the United States the virus along with their family members from Wuhan China on visa's as the Chinese government canceled all domestic flights in China but let international flights out of Wuhan China proceed. News reports did state many U.S. Citizens of Chinese heritage were sickened with the Coronavirus in and out of the United States.
There's many Chinatown's in the United States and what I'm noticing is all the heavy outbreaks of this virus are in large cities with a Chinatown and heavily populated areas near large bodies of water. Tourism is big time through Chinatowns in the U.S. so it's not a surprise the virus is in every town and city across the United States.
I already know positively that most if not all flu viruses come from China and this has already been established. It's been reported that U.S. drug representatives go to China each year before the flu season and get a sample of the flu virus and create a flu vaccine before the flu virus migrates to the United States. Some years the flu vaccines created are great and some years the vaccine created is inadequate.
Because of the suppression of the spread by the Chinese government and the U.S. democrat party thousands of people worldwide are now deceased. The Chinese want to save face for their deadly blunder and the U.S. democrat party want China to be apart of their globalization efforts no matter what. It's understood now even by the most relaxed democrats that the democrat party is leaning towards a communist type of government and their media is pushing the false understanding that full government control can create solutions the democrat party never was able to achieve under Barack Obama's 8 years in the presidency with a democrat stranglehold of congress.
The laboratory in Wuhan China where it's said the Coronavirus came from is located next to a large river. The Coronavirus seems to do well in moist climates next to large bodies of water. Really large outbreaks are in coastal regions of the United States and near waterways. Las Vegas I expected to have a large outbreak as New York because of the massive tourism and the Chinatown there but there's only 3000 cases with 139 deaths countywide (Clark County) due to the dry climate in my own opinion where moisture evaporates soon after leaving a persons mouth.
The desert southwest is very dry naturally even when it rains and except for some cases (under 500 infections and under 200 deaths) in the big counties of Clark (Las Vegas, NV.), Maricopa (Phoenix, AZ.) and Pima (Tucson, AZ.) which have massive tourism and immigrants the desert southwest maybe the best place to be during this Coronavirus outbreak, just stay out of the 3 cities listed above.
Quote From Sciencing: Another characteristic of a dry climate is that evaporation is often greater than precipitation. This results in a climate that lacks ground moisture due to the low average rainfall and rapid evaporation of the precipitation that does fall.
What I'm saying is the droplets that are ejected while talking and sneezing dry up really fast in the desert southwest whereas droplets that are ejected in coastal cities stay moist for 2 or more hours. The north central United States and Alaska have the fewest Coronavirus outbreaks but that appears to be due to the lack of huge population centers, chinese immigrants and tourism.
As for shutting down the United States I guess it had to be done since very few face masks were available for public use. I surely hope the United States government will pull as much critical and non critical manufacturing as they can out of China and back to the United States. The governors and federal government could have saved United States Citizens a lot of pain and hardship if they had given away free face masks to everyone in the country. Shutting down the economy had to be done to save lives since past elected leaders gave United States manufacturing away.
Opening the United States economy back up and containing the spread of the Coronavirus should be done through "Face Masks". Many people I see already have and wear face masks but many do not. A law requiring everyone to wear face masks, "? " as a health concern measure wouldn't be bad if free or affordable face masks were available for the working poor and homeless. Unintentionally making someone else sick isn't a crime but should be kept to a minimum. The police will have a rough time identifying criminals but the virus will die out. The Chinese government hoarded over two billion face masks and I'm betting everyone in Wuhan China was given one. Two Trillion dollars were spent in the United States to shore up businesses and families and I expect it would have been less expensive with no harm to the economy if the United States government had enough face masks to give to people in Coronavirus break out areas.
People who are young and naturally have an intake of the daily percentage value of the vitamin "Zinc" which is 15mg most likely will repel and not contract the Coronvirus. Zinc is a natural deterrent of the Coronavirus and older people most likely do not absorb enough of this mineral or do not take a supplement. I heard our president "Donald Trump" say he has to import more Zinc in a short statement as he was walking out of one of his daily Coronavirus briefings. I myself already am vitamin heavy because of medical conditions that plague me. "Zinc" has been a regular with me for years now along with other vitamins. A person can still contract the Coronavirus taking Zinc but Zinc is a big time deterrent the Coronavirus cannot survive with.
The economy should be kept closed in areas and I mean areas of high outbreaks that should be given face masks for everyone to wear. Areas of light outbreaks should be given face masks also but keep the area economies open. Areas with no outbreaks should be let to operate freely. The economy has to be restarted and as long as face masks are keeping the Coronavirus from being ejected from a persons mouth there's no harm no foul. It's said that many Coronavirus carriers do not exhibit symptoms so a face mask over everyone's airways stopping droplet ejections seems to be the likely cure until the Coronavirus dies out naturally due to not being able to spread.

Tips to Enhance Body Immunity

By    Expert Author Dr. Pran Rangan

In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, the people have been taking the required precautions like the use of mask, social distancing, minimal personal interactions, etc. Despite the observance of these measures, it is quite important that one should possess good immunity to fight the new Corona virus infection and other illnesses.
The immune system is essential for our survival. Without it our bodies would be open to attack from bacteria, viruses, parasites, and more. It keeps us healthy as we come across a large number of pathogens.
It is spread throughout the body and involves many types of cells, organs, proteins, and tissues. It has special ability to distinguish our tissue from foreign tissue. Dead and faulty cells are also recognized and cleared away by it.
If it encounters a pathogen, a bacterium, virus, or parasite, it mounts a so-called immune response. An immune response is a reaction which occurs in our body for the purpose of defending against foreign invaders. A toxin or other foreign substance, which induces an immune response in the body thereby producing antibodies, is called antigen.
Central to its ability to mobilize a response to an invading pathogen, toxin or allergen is its ability to distinguish self from non-self. The host uses both innate and adaptive mechanisms to detect and eliminate pathogenic microbes.
Innate immunity is the defense system with which we are born. Innate immunity involves barriers that keep harmful materials from entering our body. These barriers form the first line of defense in the immune response.
If pathogens successfully evade the innate response, we possess a second layer of protection, the adaptive immune system, which is activated by the innate response. It adapts its response during an infection to improve its recognition of the pathogen. This response is retained after the pathogen has been eliminated in the form of an immunological memory, which allows the adaptive immune system to mount faster and stronger attacks each time this pathogen is encountered.
Tips to enhance immunity -
The following are important tips that will help us to enhance our immunity:
Have an adequate sleep -
Sleep and immunity are closely linked. During sleep, the immune system releases proteins called cytokines. Certain cytokines need to increase when we have an infection or inflammation, or when we are under stress. Sleep deprivation may decrease production of these protective cytokines. In addition, infection-fighting antibodies and cells are reduced during periods when we don't get enough sleep.
It is normally recommended that adults should aim to get 7 or more hours of sleep each night, whereas teens need 8-10 hours and younger children and infants up to 14 hours.
Eat more whole plant foods -
Whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes are rich in nutrients and antioxidants that may give you an upper hand against harmful pathogens by boosting immunity. By eating all different colors of plant-based foods, we are more likely to get a strong and varied nutritional profile. In fact, whole foods, plant-based diet contains 64-times the amount of immunity-boosting antioxidants compared to a diet that includes meat and dairy.
Eat healthy oil -
Healthy fats like olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil and foods rich in omega-3s are highly anti-inflammatory. Since chronic inflammation can suppress our immune system, these fats may naturally combat illnesses. A low-level inflammation is a normal response to stress or injury.
Reduce stress -
The stress suppresses it, increasing susceptibility to colds and other illnesses. It is difficult to define stress. Most scientists studying the relationship of stress and immune function, however, do not study a sudden, short-lived stressor; rather, they try to study more constant and frequent stressors known as chronic stress.
Do regular exercise -
The regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living. Just like a healthy diet, exercise can contribute to a healthy immune system. It may contribute by promoting good circulation, which allows its cells and substances to move through the body freely and do their job efficiently.
Stop smoking -
Smoking can suppress it because nicotine can lead to decreased neutrophilic phagocytic activity. It can also inhibit the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) thus impairing the ability of neutrophils to kill pathogens. Within the lungs, smoking triggers a release of inflammatory agents that lead to persistent chronic inflammatory syndrome.
Meditate daily -
It has been found that the benefit we experience from meditation isn't strictly psychological; there is a clear and quantifiable change in how our bodies function. Meditation is one of the restorative activities that may provide relief for our immune systems, easing the day-to-day stress of the body.
Limit added sugar -
When we eat a big dose of sugar, we temporarily damp down our immune system's ability to respond to challenges. The effect lasts for several hours. So if you eat sweets several times a day, it may be perpetually operating at a distinct disadvantage. Further eating sugary foods can produce excessive inflammation that serves no useful purpose but promotes aging and disease.
The bottom line -
Our immune system is essential for our survival. Our lifestyle can affect how well it can protect us from germs, viruses, and chronic illnesses. Replacing bad health habits with good ones can help keep it healthy. The above tips if followed adequately can go a long way toward strengthening our immunity.
Our immune system is crucial for our survival since it helps us protect from myriads of illnesses. Our lifestyle is closely linked to our immunity. By adopting the tips mentioned in the article, we can enhance our immunity.

Living With Novel Corona Virus or Covid 19

By

The human world has just gone almost upside down. The recent pandemic has grabbed the everyday life of humans' by the throat, and this happened all of a sudden. Fear has emerged from the darkness and has proliferated within the entire globe very swiftly, and this has paralyzed the routine works of humans. The Novel Corona Virus has brought in very many novel ways along with it, which were unknown to humans hitherto, rather neglected by them.
Now, many say that from now onwards, there will be a pre and post Novel Corona Virus era.
But, will humans become novel because of Novel Corona Virus? If we learn the essence of this painful pandemic, then we will see the emergence of a welcoming world on the other side of this heartbreak! On the other hand, if the lesson remains unread, then for sure, it will breed enmity between nations, which will take the world to novel confrontations.
Let's hope for the best to happen. Let us have a bit of optimism and look forward to a better human society where there are no religious, caste, or racial discriminations.
Living With Novel Corona Virus or Covid 19 - Precautions
  • Be hygienic always, anywhere, and at all costs. Maintaining personal hygiene is imperative.
  • Whenever you move out, wear a face mask; for common use, a two-layered cloth mask is better. You can reuse the same after washing. You can also make it at home.
  • While wearing and removing masks, you must take double care; you must not touch the middle portion by hand; always, hold the string for wearing and removing.
  • Don't place your mask carelessly here or there, after use. Always take it to your bathroom if washable and wash it with soap or detergent immediately. If it is a 'one-time' use mask, you must wash it in the same manner and put it in a plastic bag and then to the garbage bag. You can also cut the same into one or two pieces, as this will prevent somebody using the same again. After removing the mask, you must wash your hands.
  • Remember, when you are out of your home, you won't know whether the person near you is a Novel Corona Virus carrier. This practically means that your entire body is unhygienic and hence, never allow your hands to touch vulnerable parts of your body such as nose, eyes, and mouth.
  • Always take a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you; this will be of great help to you when you are on the move.
  • Forget about the handshake greeting; don't greet by a handshake; instead, you can just fold your hands and nod your head. This is the best form of greeting.
  • Sanitize your hands more often; when you are at home, you can use soap.
  • It's always good to take warm foods and drinks.
  • Maintain individual distance; at least three feet away from another person.
  • It's sensible to stay away from crowded places, in any case, for these initial periods.
  • Clean your hands and feet when you reach your home or workplace.
  • When you reach your home, you must enter inside only after washing your feet. Straight away, you must have your bath.
  • Take protein-rich food, which will make your resistance-level up and will enhance the overall immunity power.
  • Do physical exercises regularly, which will help our body metabolism.
  • Get in touch with a practicing physician if you feel something wrong with your body. Never attempt to do self medication.
Finally, we must learn the lesson taught by this Novel Corona Virus that human life is so fragile, and it can collapse even by a minute virus, which is not visible by the human naked-eye. Hence, we must throw away the hatred that we were carrying hitherto and must love one another. Let us become Novel Human Beings.

Anemia & Diabetes: A Vicious Circle

Dr. Julian Whitaker

01/15/2020

If you’re feeling weak and easily fatigued for no good reason, ask your doctor about testing for anemia. Although these symptoms could have any number of causes, anemia is a fairly common one. This is especially true for women who are pregnant or of childbearing age, vegetarians, Blacks, Hispanics, and people over age 65, as these groups have an above-average risk of developing anemia.
There’s another high-risk group that’s often overlooked, despite the fact that it comprises 30 million Americans—people with diabetes. Anemia affects 25 percent of those with diabetes, compared to just 5–6 percent of the general population, and oftentimes it’s undiagnosed.

ABCs of Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which the number of healthy red blood cells is too low to deliver adequate oxygen to the tissues. Common causes include:
  • Iron deficiency. Iron is an essential element in hemoglobin, the protein that transports oxygen in red blood cells.
  • Blood loss. This includes monthly menstrual cycles, which is why younger women are at increased risk.
  • Vitamin B12/folate deficiencies. These vitamins are required for the production of red blood cells. Deficiencies are most common in older people who have trouble absorbing B12 from food.
  • Inherited conditions. Genetic disorders such as sickle cell anemia and thalassemia result in fragile red blood cells.
  • Destruction of red blood cells. Hemolytic anemia occurs when red blood cells are destroyed faster than they are made.
  • Inadequate or faulty production of red blood cells. This is a rare but very serious condition called aplastic anemia.
Although any of these factors can contribute to anemia, research suggests that a primary link between diabetes and anemia is diabetic kidney disease.

Diabetes, Anemia & Your Kidneys

Iron, vitamin B12, and folate aren’t the only prerequisites for red blood cell production. Erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone made in the kidneys, is also required. If EPO output falters, the bone marrow cannot manufacture enough red blood cells to meet the body’s demands, and anemia develops.
For people with healthy kidneys, this isn’t a problem.  learn more>>> https://www.healthydirections.com/anemia-diabetes?key=352153&utm_campaign=PP-35&utm_source=loy-email-all&utm_medium=email_channel&utm_content=whitaker-352153-ETB-4-ETS-37-PP-35-O-3-S-1_whitaker-eletter-031220&utm_leadgen_overlay=false&pf=0&of=WT%20website&et_s=ETS-37&et_b=ETB-4&sg=S-1&sp_rid=bWhvdGhlbTFAbWFpbmUucnIuY29tS0&sm_rid=bWhvdGhlbTFAbWFpbmUucnIuY29tS0&sm_mid=41990001&spdate=March%2012,%202020&emaildid=7446665&spMailingID=41990001&spUserID=OTAyNTM5MDM4NDUxS0&spJobID=1721088294&spReportId=MTcyMTA4ODI5NAS2

The Importance of Muscle in Healthy Aging

Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola

March 14, 2020

 Story at-a-glance

  • The older you get, the more important your muscle mass becomes. Not only are strong muscles a requirement for mobility, balance and the ability to live independently, but having reserve muscle mass will also increase your chances of survival during illness and hospitalization
  • Age-related loss of muscle mass is known as sarcopenia, and if you don’t do anything to stop it you can expect to lose about 15% of your muscle mass between your 30s and your 80s
  • While declines in muscle mass and strength are relatively well-synchronized in the 35- to 40-year-old group, strength dramatically drops off as you get into the 75-year-old and over groups, with 85-year-olds seeing dramatic declines in strength and function relative to the decline in muscles size
  • Research shows the strongest one-third of the population over 60 have a 50% lower death rate than the weakest
  • Research shows aerobic exercise in isolation reduces your all-cause mortality by 16% and strength training-only reduces it by 21%, whereas if you do both, you reduce your all-cause mortality by 29%
The older you get, the more important your muscle mass becomes. Not only are strong muscles a requirement for mobility, balance and the ability to live independently, but having reserve muscle mass will also increase your chances of survival1 when sick or hospitalized.

Acupuncture for Relieving Chronic Pain

By                 Expert Author Jexy Rodriguez

Many people learn to live with chronic pain and do not consult a specialist to help relieve the daily ailments. In some cases, ignorance of the pathology or the widespread belief that aging means to live with pain, many do not receive the appropriate treatment capable of subtracting pain, slow the evolution of the pathology and, therefore, improve their quality of life.
Currently, we are living in a new era in medicine, since the alternative medicine is added to the traditional medicine, which combined to achieve better results in the inhibition of chronic pain. One of those techniques, which is gaining adherents every day, is acupuncture.
Acupuncture is effective in 49 diseases and disorders
This traditional Chinese technique arises from the conception of the body as a network of interconnected points through which energy flows. When there is a blockage or stagnation of that energy in the canal, it is when the pain occurs.
The acupuncture is to stimulate anatomical locations on the skin through the insertion of thin metal needles. Their placement in specific areas of the body called acupuncture points, allow better electrical conduction which is capable of provoking biological responses in the patient. In this way, they (acupuncturists) provoke stimuli in the nervous, hormonal and immune system that manage to restore the body to a state of equilibrium.
Such is its effectiveness, that the World Health Organization has described this technique as an effective option against pain. In addition, it is effective in at least 49 diseases and disorders. Especially, it has demonstrated great benefits in the treatment of low back pain, postoperative pain, and fibromyalgia, neuropathic, joint and musculoskeletal pain. It also acts on hormonal and nervous system levels.
Although it is a simple and painless technique, it is not completely innocuous, special care should be taken in pregnant patients, in infected areas, patients with blood clotting problems or serious neurological or psychiatric disorders. Even so, it is necessary to go to the pain specialist beforehand, who will determine the suitability of alternative medicine in the case of each patient.
Benefits of Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been shown to have benefits in the treatment of chronic pain, but also in many other aspects, such as improvement in physical recovery, digestion or reduction of stress, anxiety, and depression. It has also been seen as improving the circulation of blood since it regulates the blood flow favoring the contribution of nutrients and oxygen in the body.
This method of traditional Chinese medicine has been used for several years in different hospitals throughout Europe and U.S and has already begun to be implemented in some centers in the Middle East for treating chronic pain and improve the quality of life of patients.
Medications are often not enough to treat chronic pain, but there are alternative therapies that are showing success in dealing with this condition. Although the pain is supposed to be good because it warns us of injuries, infections or illnesses, it is not so useful when it never goes away.
A better way to relieve pain
Chronic pain can come from many causes, from migraines to cancer, and persist from a few months to live after injury or illness. It can disrupt sleep, because of depression and anxiety, lower libido, affect social relationships and affect memory and cognitive functioning.
Usually, the first defense against this threat is medication, but not enough and carries risks like upset stomach or addiction. That is why more and more people are turning to acupuncture to relieve chronic pain.
Science is slowly incorporating this ancient practice of Chinese medicine, although experts have not yet discovered why inserting needles into the skin helps relieve back pain, injury, and diseases such as fibromyalgia. According to some specialists, acupuncture blocks pain signals or stimulates the body to release painkillers.
Several studies showed that patients who received acupuncture had less migraine or injury pain than those receiving standard drug treatments. Even when progress was modest, the great advantage of this practice was the lack of side effects. In addition, even if the needles are not placed exactly along the meridians (energy channels, according to Chinese tradition), patients receive equal benefits and if done correctly, this procedure causes little or no discomfort.
Among its many benefits, Acupuncture helps to improve blood circulation and lower blood pressure, encourage the elimination of toxic products through the lymphatic system, improve muscle tone, prevent muscle atrophy, and reduce emotional stress.
Scientists know that physical contact helps in reducing pain, although they do not know how this mechanism works. In addition, specialists argue that soft touch and acupuncture therapy decreases the production of cortisol, a stress-releasing hormone (in turn, associated with increased pain). However, despite all positive studies, experts are still not sure how many messages need to be applied or what type they should be before a particular pathology.

Why I Believe In Acupuncture?

By                        Expert Author Richard Brody

My first exposure to acupuncture, was in the 1970's, when I observed, at a hospital, in New York City, a demonstration, of using acupuncture, as a primary anesthetic, instead of drugs, chemicals, gas, or any of the usual methods, This amazed me, because, there appeared to be no pain or discomfort, during the procedure, and was, obviously, somewhat safer, and non - invasive, than other approaches. This experience opened, my mind, to learn more about acupuncture, and how it might have benefits, in a variety of circumstances, and conditions. More than a decade, later, I was experience spasms, in my jaw, apparently, after oral surgery, because, I have a small mouth, and the stretching, created, a reaction or trisma. After a few days, we were in New York's, Chinatown, and I noticed, a sign, behind a Chinese Herb shop, for an acupuncturist, on the premises. I felt, I should try it, because I believed, either it would benefit me, or, at the very least, there would be, no detrimental, side - effects. Less than an hour later, my discomfort was permanently, relieved!
1. Shoulder/ knee/ lower back discomfort/ pain: After decades of athletics, and other use, I experienced significant shoulder pain and discomfort. I went to an Orthopedist, who stated, the cartilage, was reduced, and there was a degree of bone - on - bone, rubbing, etc. He explained the challenges of shoulder surgery, and stated, I might benefit from a cortisone shot. Unfortunately, the shot did not help, and the discomfort continued. Someone told me, about a great acupuncturist, in my town, and, so, I made an appointment. For the last several years, I have gone, approximately, fifteen, to twenty times, to this doctor, and, found a considerable amount of relief, from the treatments. While the underlying cause of the issue, including arthritis, and excess use, remained, the treatments appeared to reduce the inflammation, and, for two, to three weeks, at a time, are extremely beneficial, to me. When I've experienced discomfort/ pain, in my knees, and/ or lower back, these treatments have been quite helpful, etc.
2. Weight management: While I have not used acupuncture for weight management, I have come into contact, with many individuals, who have.
3. Stress/ tension: I have observed, numerous successful treatments, with those, using acupuncture, to relieve their stress, and tensions, in a non - invasive, non - drug, manner.
If we open, our minds, to the benefits of age - old, successful treatments, such as acupuncture, many illnesses and challenges, might be addressed, successfully, in a safe, reliable way. The more, we know, and examine, alternatives, the better off, we all might be, from a health - perspective!

How To Achieve Your DREAMS?

By                  Expert Author Richard Brody

How often, are we instructed, to try to live our personal DREAMS, while, often, not fully recognizing some of what that requires, and why? Henry Ford is often credited with saying, You can think you can, or can't. Either way, you'll be correct. That is relevant, because, one has little, to, no chance, of achieving these, unless/ until, he first, takes the time, and makes the effort, to identify, understand, and be personally motivated, by specific things/ conditions/ circumstances, first! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and what it means, in terms of, our overall health, and well - being.
1. Delve deeply; discover; directly; desires: Dreams must be personal, and avoid the error, of, merely trying to adopt those, of others, and, Keeping up with the Joneses! One must look, directly, at the possibilities, and discover, which of his desires, are the most important, and might, have the greatest influence/ impact, over his life!
2. Realistic; relevant; responsive; responsible; ramifications: Avoid the temptation to tell yourself lies, and, instead, be realistic, and know your strengths, as well as areas of personal weakness! How relevant are your aspirations, to becoming, happier and healthier? What might you, proceed, to be, as responsive, as possible, for your own, best - interests? Give yourself a thorough, check - up, from the neck - up, in a responsible way, in order to avoid as many undesirable ramifications, as possible!
3. Emphasis; endure; enrich: How do you know, where to place your most emphasis, and, are you prepared to proceed, persistently, and endure/ overcome, life's obstacles and challenges? Are you actions, focused on enriching yourself, towards getting closer, to your genuine dreams and aspirations?
4. Attitude; aptitude; attention: You'll only address your personal dreams, when you proceed, forward, with a true, positive, can - do, attitude, and combine your considerations, focus, and emphasis, with a well - developed, relevant aptitude, and skill - set! Will you commit, to focusing most of your attention, on your personal priorities, instead of getting, hung - up, on the petty stuff?
5. Motivate/ motivating; meaningful; make mark: Achieving any dream, means, effectively, proceeding, towards making your mark, for the better! Will you live a truly, meaningful, existence? Will you motivate, yourself, on a daily basis, and will this motivating, mind - set, help to make you happier, and more fulfilled?
6. Solutions; strengthen; serve: How one serves his needs, and creates viable solutions, which strengthen him, and create a path, to greater success, often, differentiates between one, who lives his dreams, versus, abandons them!
Are your personal DREAMS, truly, meaningful, to you? Focus on ways you can, instead of why it might be difficult!

Eating to Lower Cancer Risk

By              Expert Author Bonnie R Giller

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. According to the National Cancer Institute, in 2019 about 1.8 million people were diagnosed with some type of cancer whether it be breast cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and so forth.
Cancer is a disease where cells divide and grow at a rate faster than they normally should. This excess cell growth destroys body tissue and forms a tumor. Cancer is thought to happen in three stages: initiation, promotion, and progression. Diet is a powerful tool that can help to slow or even reverse the promotion and progression stages.
Nutrition and Cancer
Nutrition is an important factor in cancer treatment and prevention. While your diet won't make you immune to developing cancer, it can certainly help to lower your odds.
Scientific research conducted by medical professionals such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. John McDougall, and Dr. Dean Ornish suggests a diet which maximizes whole plant-based foods can be beneficial in helping fight cancer. This means eating lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds daily. You don't have to eat a diet exclusive to plants, but it's a good idea to make them the main star of the show.
5 Tips for incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet:
1. At breakfast, top cereal, pancakes or oatmeal with fresh berries, bananas or peaches.
2. Pre-washed and pre-cut fruits or vegetables makes for a great easy, fast and healthy snack.
3. Incorporating more salads into your diet is a great way to get in a lot of vegetables.
4. Make your plate colorful, incorporating three different vegetables with protein (i.e. spinach, carrots, and beets).
5. Fruit salad or baked fruit is a great alternative for dessert.
5 Tips for incorporating more whole grains into your diet:
1. Instead of white bread, white pasta, or white rice, try whole wheat or whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta, or brown rice as a healthier alternative.
2. Use whole grains as side dishes such as pilafs, barley or quinoa.
3. For breakfast, try whole grain cereals, whole wheat pancake and waffle mixes, or whole grain hot cereals.
4. Enjoy whole grain crackers as a snack.
5. Choose alternatives to processed and red meats:
- Fresh roasted turkey or chicken makes a good substitute for red meat.
- Tofu or tempeh can be used in almost any recipe as a substitute for meat.
- Choosing turkey sausage or turkey bacon with breakfast is a better option than beef sausage.
- Egg salad or hummus is a good substitute for lunch meats.
If you are undergoing chemotherapy treatment for your cancer, it's possible you are experiencing a loss of appetite or change in taste preferences. Foods may taste metallic or perhaps you experience nausea. This certainly makes eating and proper nutrition a challenge. Unfortunately, eating less food in this situation can lead to malnutrition. This is why it's important for you to eat enough nutritious food, so your body has the energy it needs to heal and fight infections.
Some strategies you can test out to get through this difficult time include minimizing cooking odors, eating high calorie, high protein foods, small frequent meals, and sip only small amounts of liquids during meals. If you continue to have issues with food, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian for more help.
We can fight cancer with the foods we have on the end of our forks. Listen to your body and eat what makes you feel good.
