The Polyvagal Hierarchy - Rules of Engagement

By

Ever wonder how the ubiquity of texting will affect our evolution?
Neurophysiologist Stephen Porges, professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, stresses that physiological connectedness is a biological imperative. He proves this by referencing his polyvagal theory which describes the function of the 10th cranial nerve, the vagus.
The vagus is a component of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) which is the system that keeps vital organs like the heart and lungs working. The ANS divides into the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems which spend and renew physiological resources.
Porges suggests we pay attention to the area around the eyes when talking to someone because "physiology determines psychology." If we feel safe when seeing kindness in someone's face, our vagus nerve acts as a "brake" on the heart rate which, without the high vagal tone, would speed out of control. The vagus "inhibits" other behaviors, like talking, which encourages listening.
The vagus nerve arises from two separate nuclei in the brain stem which accommodates older and newer branches. The unmyelinated older branch descends down the back spine and innervates organs below the diaphragm. This "vegetative" vagus is common to all vertebrates - including reptiles who freeze when threatened.
The newer myelinated vagal branch descends down the front spine and activates organs above the diaphragm. This "smart" vagus is shared by all mammals. Since mammals are dependent on other mammals to survive, this vagus encourages social engagement.
The 7th cranial nerve controls the face muscles and arises from the same nucleus on the brain stem as the smart vagus. The facial nerve activates the muscles around the eye, including the orbicularis oculi, which registers emotion. Cues we read on another's face track back into the vagus and affect our physiology.
The fight or flight response is part of the newer vagus and arises if we don't see a kind face but a flat face; or we don't hear a prosodic voice but a low monotone. The vagus takes the brake off the heart to mobilize either the fight or flight response. If that system fails and our life is threatened, the vegetative vagus asserts itself and we lose consciousness.
Since the smart vagus controls heart and breathing, respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) measures vagal tone. RSA occurs as heart rate speeds up while inhaling and slows down when exhaling. This variability characterizes a healthy heart.
Greater RSA enhances the calm physiology of the smart vagus and encourages affiliative behaviors like face-to-face contact, listening, prosody and conforming posture. These features help us detect whether we are safe and, if so, supports optimal learning behaviors.
In summary, the polyvagal theory is hierarchical: the newer myelinated vagus inhibits sympathetic defenses which inhibit unmyelinated immobilization defenses.
Texting interrupts the "neural exercises" of face-to-face communication so necessary to ground our mammalian nervous system. Lack of practice hinders these rules of engagement. Lose the phone. Reach out and touch someone.

A Basic Principle of Healing: First, Do No Harm

By        Expert Author Nedda Wittels

The Greek healer, Hippocrates, set the first standards for medicine in the form of the Hippocratic Oath.
A basic principle of that oath was
"First do no harm."
This ethic is meant to be the guide for whatever intervention a physician or healer uses to assist a patient to heal because...
the actual healing itself is done by the body.
For example, you accidentally cut your finger. You may clean the wound and put an antiseptic on it, followed by a bandaid.
None of these things actually cause the cut to heal. That work is done by the physical body itself.
  • Cleaning the wound and using an antiseptic remove bodies that may interfere with the physical body's ability to repair the cut.
  • A bandaid, or bandage, assists by keeping the cut clean, and may hold the two sides of the cut together, thus making it easier for the body to reconnect the tissues as it repairs the wound.
This is similar to how Energy Healing helps you recover from an illness or an injury.
In Energy Healing, the facilitator's (healer's) primary responsibility is to support the body's natural healing processes.
This is done in a number of ways.
  1. Removing energy blocks that may interfere in the healing process.
  2. Supporting the body energetically so that it has the energy it needs to do the repair work.
  3. Communicating clear intentions to the body so it understands the expectations and goals of the person whose body it is.
  4. Assisting the body to let go of energy patterns that are interfering with the healing process, such as trapped emotions, limiting beliefs, and distorted vibrational patterns.
A healing facilitator communicates with expert energy healers in higher realms who may be able to see or perceive subtle aspects of damage that are outside the third dimensional reality.
Full recovery may require that those damaged area be repaired as well.
A well-known example of this type of situation would be a damaged chakra.
A chakra is a spinning wheel of energy. The most well known chakras are along the spinal column.
There are also many chakras of varying sizes throughout the physical and other energy bodies. Some chakras are part if the meridian system used in acupuncture and are called "acupuncture points."
When a chakra is damaged or functioning improperly, a complete healing outcome may be compromised.
Each chakra may be a slightly different size, color and complexity, depending on where it is located in the body and the services it performs.
Chakras are a basic part of the energy anatomy of all conscious beings.
Humans and animals have chakras, and so do plants.
Mother Earth has chakras as well.
Within the physical body of a human or animal, the various organs and glands have chakras specifically designed to keep each one in balance and harmony by providing essential "life force" to that part of the anatomy.
When my cat Violet was diagnosed with early stage renal (kidney) failure, I discovered that one of her kidneys had a chakra that was misaligned and wasn't able to function properly as a result.
By repairing Violet's kidney chakra with energy healing, I assisted her kidney to function better. Using muscle testing, I was able to increase the energetic ability of the kidney to function by more than 50%.
This contributed to Violet feeling more comfortable in her body for a longer time than she might have otherwise.
In all types of energy healing, "First, do no harm" remains an essential ethical principle.

Water - The Essential Ingredient

By        Expert Author Greg S Gruba

Water May Be Just What The Doctor Ordered
If you have ever heard me speak or been in my office, chances are I asked you about your daily water consumption.
In today's world, I am amazed how little water most people consume. Maybe it's because it is not as flashy as the cool cans and bottles filled with various soft drinks, energy drinks, or even beer. I think we have developed the need for taste, regardless of the benefits of plain water and the horrible effect the other drinks have on our health and longevity.
Think about this, our bodies are made up of about 75 percent water. Doesn't it make sense to nourish it with the same ingredient? I often think about a well hydrated muscle as a nice red, raw steak. Conversely, I imagine a dehydrated muscle as a piece of tough jerky. If you cherish flexibility and strength, which would you prefer?
What is even more amazing than the water content of an adult, is the water content of a baby. A typical healthy baby is made up of about 90 percent water! Keeping this in mind, think about how healthy they are and how quick they bounce back from illness.
On the contrary, an elderly person only has a body water content as low as 55 percent. Keep this number in mind when an older person is admitted to the hospital and are often told they are dehydrated. Without proper hydration, ill health is the obvious outcome.
Over our lifetime we drop from a 90 percent water makeup to 55 percent. Doesn't that alone indicate that the younger, healthier person benefits from proper hydration?
What about Chronic Dehydration?
Chronic dehydration is simply your body using more water than it takes in over time. The signs of dehydration often are misdiagnosed and present to a chiropractor or medical doctor for related symptoms.
As a chiropractor practicing in South Dakota, one would think dehydration cases are far and few between. Believe it or not, dehydration seems to be very prevalent in the colder temperatures. It often seems like people neglect drinking water in the winter or colder climates. Therefor, hot temperatures may contribute to acute dehydration, but the cooler climates appear to be ripe with chronic dehydration. Our office sees numerous headache patients seeking acupuncture or chiropractic. Many of these patients are also dehydrated.
Signs of dehydration include dry skin, bad breath, cramping, fevers, chills, headaches, and even cravings for sugar.
Severe dehydration can cause life threatening problems such as blood clots or seizures.
A couple simple, but accurate, signs of dehydration can be ongoing fatigue or yellow urine. If you are always tired and the color of your urine is not mostly clear, chances are you need to drink more water.
How much water should I drink?
As I mentioned, keep an eye on urine color and energy level. A good rule of thumb for proper intake of water is 1 ounce of water for every pound you weigh. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 150 ounces of water per day. This sounds like a lot, but believe me, it's not! Shoot, some literature recommends 1 ounce of water for every pound of body weight divided by 2. Even that formula is not met by most Americans.
Sometimes, hunger is confused with dehydration. Many people will feel hungry and only need to increase their water uptake. I suggest you drink between a half and a full liter of water prior to all meals. If you are consuming 3-6 liters of water per day, you are probably in the hydration ballpark.
Should I drink tap water?
Drinking water should be filtered. Many doctors believe you do not need filtered water because your body and kidneys will filter the water you drink. Unfortunately, over time your body will be overloaded with toxins. A proper filtration system should at least remove toxins such as chlorine and chloramine.
Mineral such as calcium and sodium will improve the absorption of water. Recent research has shown ionized water to be even better.
Also, make it a point to drink from a glass bottle instead of a plastic bottle. Plastic will leach into the water and cause issues with estrogen and testosterone levels in men and women.
Another popular type of water is carbonated. Carbonated water is not as easily absorbed by your body. Avoid sugar and preservatives in your water.
Start your day with a short breathing exercise and a liter of water. You will be amazed how your appetite and energy levels improve.

The Psychology of Laughter

By        Expert Author Saberi Roy

On the perspectives of laughter, why humans laugh and how laughter creates healthy optimism.
Laughter is an essential aspect of human life. A psychological theory of laughter will consider the biology or brain activity involved in laughter and the associated emotions or expressions that accompany laughter. Why do some people laugh more often than others? Why do some people only giggle whereas some others will laugh loudly or heartily? Some people with more active self-control may find it difficult or even odd to laugh too loudly. Some people may find it very enjoyable to make others laugh whereas some others like to laugh themselves and like it when others make them laugh
Laughter is essentially healthy and health experts recommend laughing exercises because when facial muscles are exercised, the respiratory system gets a boost, the brain and heart also benefit from the exercise and the level of optimism created in your mind is essentially translated into physical well-being. So, when you laugh it creates optimism and you feel happy and emotionally healthy. When you are emotionally healthy and optimistic, you are able to laugh and this creates a healthy cycle of emotions
Laughter is itself not a positive emotion but an expression and facilitates positive emotions and laughter is also caused by positive emotions.
When babies cry, you tickle them or dangle toys so that they immediately forget the negative emotion and start laughing and feel good. So, happiness being so important in life, laughter is equally important as we express our happiness with laughter. Babies are more innocent and will express their happiness quickly after bouts of crying. Adults are a bit more controlled and calculating, they may not express their happiness or positive emotions by laughing after depressive bouts or periods of sadness.
Some of the questions (and answers) psychologists must develop are:
Why do people laugh?
What are the brain mechanisms or brain activities involved in laughter?
Why do some people laugh out loud and others are more controlled?
What are the health benefits of laughter?
How does the body respond to laughing?
Why do some people like to make others laugh whereas some others are happy when others make them laugh?
Laughter has a complex psychological dynamic. You may love to laugh or make others laugh and comedians are people who like to keep their audience in control, so they enthrall and enliven people around them with jokes. When you can make other people laugh, you have power and control over their emotions, so laughter is not as simple as it seems. It involves a significantly complex psychological dynamic.
Think of comedians like Charlie Chaplin or Seinfeld. They have intense psychological control over their audience and that kind of control is power. Making others laugh will ultimately give you a sense of power, although comedians make others laugh because they release their energetic wits through their jokes. Energetic wit is creative expression and some people are compelled to create jokes and engage their audience in laughing fits.
Laughter is not just about biology but psychological expression as well so a study of laughter or even s strange study on the history of laughter could help psychologists to understand how laughter developed in humans, and how psychological expressions of laughter helped develop positive emotions, creative expressions and brought together societies and communities. In ancient times, street performers made people laugh and this type of vocation exists even today. Street performers crack jokes and make a living by making people laugh and it is part of entertainment.
Read my psychology of entertainment to understand how entertainment has a positive effect on society. Laughter is also fundamentally essential for human health, well-being and longevity. The happier you are, the longer you will live.
The Biological basis of Laughter
There isn't much history of laughter before the 1960s when researchers started studying the benefits of laughter. Laughter releases endorphins, which are natural pain relievers or analgesics and laughter helps in killing pain inside the body. Laughter triggers positive emotions and stimulation of the hypothalamus and amygdala and researchers have pointed out that these positive emotions have beneficial effects on the body. Psychology must continue to conduct longitudinal studies to find the long-term effects of laughter on human health. The medicinal effects of laughter must also be studied more thoroughly. If you laugh three hours a day for a year, will that relieve arthritis or other kind of physical pain? What impact does laughter have on facial muscles? Do you experience accelerated ageing or wrinkles when you laugh?
The Psychological basis of Laughter
Laughter creates positive emotions and aids in health, longevity and long-term well-being. Some psychologists and therapists have come up with innovative ideas such as laughter therapy, laughing club, etc. Laughter may have physical respiratory benefits but finally it is the psychological benefits that will matter. The positive emotions created by laughter is contagious and laughter among team members can aid in increase of energy and accomplishments within a team.
The Philosophical basis of Laughter
There isn't much philosophical analysis on laughter. Early Stoic and even Greek philosophers considered public laughter as unnecessary or avoidable. Although in ancient times court jesters regularly performed to make people laugh and ancient kings had jesters or comedians to entertain the people. Laughter in early days was primarily a form of entertainment rather than psychological therapy. But entertainment does have its psychological value, so an activity that was only entertainment is now known for its therapeutic attributes. This change in our perspective on laughter is interesting and the value of laughter will only increase with more discovery.
The Literary basis of Laughter
The literary or historical basis of Laughter shows that laughter, humor and satire were interrelated and early satirists and humorists, for instance Voltaire used laughter to influence people's political motives and decisions. Humor and satire were political tools and laughter has always motivated people in specific directions. So laughter has been used for different purposes in history from entertainment, political or social motivation of masses to therapeutic and health reasons in contemporary times.
There are also many types of laughter, which I will not elaborate here, but types of laughter depends on the expressions, emotions involved, the social or cultural customs and individual personality. Mental illness also affects the type of laughter and some mentally ill people will have unusual laughter.
Students and researchers of psychology must ideally study the types of laughter prevalent in cultures, among certain personalities and how expressions through laughter have changed over time. Researchers must also study the history of laughter, the social customs associated with laughter, connections between humor, satire and laughter from a literary and historical perspective and the transformation of laughter from a purely entertainment based activity to a therapeutic tool with significant health benefits.

How to Get Maximum Benefits From Acupuncture Treatment for Neuropathy

By        Expert Author Li Zheng

A sound mind resides in a sound body. For the body to be fit, it is essential for a person to get proper rest, exercise regularly, maintain a well-balanced and nutritious diet, get six to eight hours of sleep and keep away from habits like smoking, drinking and eating fast foods. When a person experiences numbness or weakness in his or her hands, legs or other parts of the body or demonstrates impaired reflexes, this may be a sign of peripheral neuropathy.
Peripheral neuropathy can affect any or all of the nerve groups, including sensory nerves, motor nerves and autonomic nerves. People with peripheral neuropathy may show the following signs:
  • Numbness and tingling sensations in the hands or feet,
  • Acute stabbing pain
  • Drop in the blood pressure
  • Heaviness in arms and legs
  • Weakness of the hands and legs
Causes of Peripheral Neuropathy
Various factors leading to nerve damage are enumerated below-
  • Pinched nerves due to herniated disc or muscle spasm
  • Glucose intolerance
  • Reynaud's disease
  • Lupus
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disorders
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Vitamin deficiency, especially of C, B-1, B-6, or B-12
Consulting a neurologist or neurosurgeon who would assess your present health condition and diagnose your nervous disorder would help you get a picture of your prognosis.
Treatment of Peripheral Neuropathy
Before finalizing the right course of treatment for peripheral neuropathy, it is essential to find out the exact cause that has led to this disorder. If it is caused by a vitamin deficiency, then a change in the diet along with vitamin therapy would be helpful. Likewise, if the nerve damage is due to alcohol abuse or taking a certain medication or toxic substance, then avoiding the substance can restore the health of nerves. One main factor contributing to nerve inflammation is a high sugar and high salt diet. Even you do not have diabetes, avoiding processed food and sweets will save your nerve function, so that, when you reach 90 years old, you still can walk and think normally.
Alternative Medical therapy for Peripheral Neuropathy
Acupuncture has been found to be highly effective for patients with peripheral neuropathy. Besides the pain relief, patients also experience a marked improvement in nerve conduction after completing the acupuncture course specified by the acupuncturist. The number of treatments depends on each person's medical condition; for a chronic condition, a few months will be required to recover the nerve function.
Researchers have revealed that electro-acupuncture has helped regenerate nerve cells in rats suffering from spinal cord injuries. There are also human studies that have indicated that acupuncture can bring back the normal sensation of the nerves in the hands and feet. Furthermore, acupuncture can help the hands regain their strength. If after a nerve injury, you still have developed muscle atrophy after doing physical therapy for a few months, it is the right time to start acupuncture treatment to help the nerves regenerate as soon as possible.
Nervous disorders that acupuncture can correct
Whether it is alcohol, tobacco or junk food addiction, or it is Bell's palsy, dementia, headache or a migraine or stroke, getting acupuncture treatment from a specialist and completing a 12 to 24 course of treatments would provide sufficient blood flow to the nerves. If diabetes is the major cause of nerve damage, then acupuncture treatment can also prevent a spike in blood sugar level induced by sugar intake and will help stabilize the sugar level in the blood.
Complications of peripheral neuropathy include falls, infection, burns and skin trauma. Besides getting specialized acupuncture treatment, patients should make healthy choices related to their food, exercise and lifestyle. This would help them minimize the risk factors and prevent any further nerve damage, thereby enabling them to enjoy a long and healthy life.
Some of the important things you need to take care are as follows:-
  • Include fruits, green vegetables, whole grain and protein in your diet for healthy nerves
  • Exercise 30 minutes-1 hour three times a week to improve the circulation to the peripheral nerves
  • Avoid smoking or excess drinking, spicy food, exposure to drugs or toxic chemicals.

Why I Believe In Acupuncture?

By       Expert Author Richard Brody

My first exposure to acupuncture, was in the 1970's, when I observed, at a hospital, in New York City, a demonstration, of using acupuncture, as a primary anesthetic, instead of drugs, chemicals, gas, or any of the usual methods, This amazed me, because, there appeared to be no pain or discomfort, during the procedure, and was, obviously, somewhat safer, and non - invasive, than other approaches. This experience opened, my mind, to learn more about acupuncture, and how it might have benefits, in a variety of circumstances, and conditions. More than a decade, later, I was experience spasms, in my jaw, apparently, after oral surgery, because, I have a small mouth, and the stretching, created, a reaction or trisma. After a few days, we were in New York's, Chinatown, and I noticed, a sign, behind a Chinese Herb shop, for an acupuncturist, on the premises. I felt, I should try it, because I believed, either it would benefit me, or, at the very least, there would be, no detrimental, side - effects. Less than an hour later, my discomfort was permanently, relieved!
1. Shoulder/ knee/ lower back discomfort/ pain: After decades of athletics, and other use, I experienced significant shoulder pain and discomfort. I went to an Orthopedist, who stated, the cartilage, was reduced, and there was a degree of bone - on - bone, rubbing, etc. He explained the challenges of shoulder surgery, and stated, I might benefit from a cortisone shot. Unfortunately, the shot did not help, and the discomfort continued. Someone told me, about a great acupuncturist, in my town, and, so, I made an appointment. For the last several years, I have gone, approximately, fifteen, to twenty times, to this doctor, and, found a considerable amount of relief, from the treatments. While the underlying cause of the issue, including arthritis, and excess use, remained, the treatments appeared to reduce the inflammation, and, for two, to three weeks, at a time, are extremely beneficial, to me. When I've experienced discomfort/ pain, in my knees, and/ or lower back, these treatments have been quite helpful, etc.
2. Weight management: While I have not used acupuncture for weight management, I have come into contact, with many individuals, who have.
3. Stress/ tension: I have observed, numerous successful treatments, with those, using acupuncture, to relieve their stress, and tensions, in a non - invasive, non - drug, manner.
If we open, our minds, to the benefits of age - old, successful treatments, such as acupuncture, many illnesses and challenges, might be addressed, successfully, in a safe, reliable way. The more, we know, and examine, alternatives, the better off, we all might be, from a health - perspective!

How Acupuncture Can Help Your Body

By

This article looks at the health benefits of acupuncture treatment and how acupuncture can help your body.
Acupuncture is a famous treatment procedure for a wide range of health conditions. It is a drug-free approach that entails inserting thin needles through the skin at specific body points. So, when and where did it originate from? How does it work? What are the health benefits of acupuncture treatment? Does it have any side effects? Read on to find out everything you need to know about acupuncture.
When and where did it originate from?
Acupuncture is the oldest form of treatment dating back to around 2nd century B.C. Its roots can be traced back to China where it started before spreading to other parts of the world. Despite the rapid growth and inventions in the medical field, Acupuncture has proven its worthiness and its still being used alongside modern medical practices.
What health conditions is it used to combat?
Acupuncture is used to fight various health conditions related to the digestive, reproductive, and respiratory systems of the body. Such conditions include acute bronchitis, chronic tonsillitis, migraine, infertility, lower back pain, bronchial asthma, chronic sinusitis, rheumatoid arthritis, facial paralysis, spasm of the cardia and esophagus, and many more. This procedure can also be used to combat addictions such as smoking and alcoholism. Acupuncture corrects imbalances in the major organs of the body which is the primary origin of many diseases hence preventing their development.
How Acupuncture Works
Acupuncture is based on the assumption that most health conditions develop due to blockage or interruption of the body's life energy flow. This interruption or blockage of flow results to the accumulation of fluid in some parts of the body resulting in swelling and pain due to excess pressure. A blockage also cuts out the supply of nutrients to all parts of the body leading to malnutrition. This makes one feel fatigue, weak and even experience slow healing if they have injuries on these parts.
Acupuncture removes blockages in the body hence relieving pain and swelling, allowing nutrients to reach all body parts thus making one to be relaxed. The body's energy balance is restored making one feel vibrant and energized. This treatment approach involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the body called acupuncture points. Depending on the condition being treated, the points of insertion and the number of needles may vary from one person to another. The needles used in the treatment are pre-sterilised and should be used only once. They are inserted just under the skin or deeper to reach the muscle where are they left in place for around 20 to 40 minutes. In some cases, the needles may be rotated or stimulated using a mild electric current. At the end of the session, you will get a deep sense of relaxation.
Does it hurt?
The procedure is not painful, but one may experience a tingling or warm sensation when the practitioner is inserting the needles. If you experience too much pain, numbness or any other form of discomfort, let the practitioner know immediately.
Benefits of acupuncture?
  • No significant side effects as compared to using drugs
  • Can be combined with other forms of treatments when carried out appropriately
  • One gets personalized therapy according to their needs
  • Works both as a preventive and treatment measure
  • One can comfortably continue with their normal life even when undergoing this procedure
These are all good examples of how acupuncture can help your body.
Side effects of acupuncture
  • Soreness, bruising and bleeding on the points of insertion (Risky for patients with a bleeding disorder or users of blood thinners)
Other alarming side effects of acupuncture procedure mostly arise from poor hygiene and training of the practitioner. Such include;
  • Infection because of using unsterilized needlesof internal organs especially the lungs which can collapse
  • Wrong angle of inserting needles or doing it too deeply resulting damage
Why Acupuncture can be a better approach to healing than using modern western drugs:
Modern western drugs have side effects that sometimes even outdo the condition the drugs are meant to treat. This means they will do more harm than good, especially when used over a long period. Acupuncture, on the other hand, doesn't leave behind significant side-effects if it's carried out safely by the right professional. Another good example of how acupuncture can help your body.
The different kinds of acupuncture include:
Electroacupuncture
This type of acupuncture involves rotating the needles once they are inserted in the body or stimulating them using a mild electric current. It gives the patient a tingling sensation which some practitioners say it facilitates healing.
Body Acupuncture
This is the most common type of acupuncture which entails inserting fine needles into various points on the body ranging from the toe to the head. The treatment is used to fight a wide range of conditions.
Auricular acupuncture
This type of acupuncture entails inserting fine needles in the ear where it is believed there are acupuncture points that represent all parts of the body. The procedure is useful in combating addictions such as alcohol or smoking, and when combined with body acupuncture, it can help treat infertility.
Acupressure and Acu-Acoustics
With this type of acupuncture, the practitioner massages or presses key acupuncture points. This acupuncture is useful in combating fatigue, skin conditions or painful conditions such as migraine. Patients don't necessarily need to visit clinics when undergoing this type of procedure. They can learn how to carry out this type of acupuncture with the help of their practitioners or programs such as Natural Synergy system. This way, they will be taught how to identify critical points and massage themselves at the comfort of their home. Of cause, no practitioner will readily teach you how to do this type of treatment on your own because they will be losing customers.
Most of them charge per session and the more sessions you attend, the better for them pocket-wise. But what about you? Are you getting any better? Are there any inconveniences on your side such time or privacy? If the answers to the preceding questions are no and yes respectively, maybe you need an alternative.
Natural Synergy
Natural Synergy is a program designed to teach you the art of acupressure and help you achieve your health goals at the comfort of your home. Emily J. Parker was the mind behind this program where she aims to help patients eliminate the root cause of various diseases instead of fighting the symptoms only like how most medications do.
Natural Synergy offers natural solutions to various psychological, or emotional conditions. The program teaches you how to use acupressure to clear blockages in the body to make it function naturally and smoothly for overall well-being. Through this program, one will learn how to identify meridian points they need to concentrate on to effectively fight a health condition.
Poor diet is the leading cause of most illnesses. With the help of this program, one will learn how to maintain a healthy diet and exercise to remain healthy. One will also be able to identify diseases that you can reverse naturally.
Natural Synergy system is well presented in audio and video tutorials to make it easy for anybody to use it regardless of their education level. This program can help you to maintain the overall well-being of your body in a natural approach. There are no side-effects, and the best thing is you can practice the guidelines of this program while enjoying the comfort of your home.
Conclusion

Chinese Acupuncture As an Ancient Medical Treatment

By

With the many, fast and rising medical technologies these days, it certainly wouldn't hurt to choose natural treatments which have long term benefits. One of them would be Chinese Acupuncture. This method has been practiced for many centuries and up until now, many patients would still go for this healing method.
If you'd like to widen your healing options, you can consider Chinese Acupuncture as an ancient yet longstanding medical treatment. Here are just some of the benefits you can gain with this type of treatment method:
Personalized Treatments
Although every patient have similar sicknesses, acupuncturists never treat each one of them in the same way. For instance, common colds usually have standard prescriptions and treatment procedures. However upon going for Chinese Acupuncture, you'll find the specialists will further classify and identify the causes of your colds.
Every person has a personal and unique health history. The details of a person's appearance will also be considered by the acupuncturist, as these may be manifestations or signs of how the patient's chi is balanced or imbalanced. Given the detailed diagnosis, each patient may then be given his or her personalized treatment.
It Definitely Works
For a method to last through centuries, it must be able to have positive effects on the body. The reason why Chinese Acupuncture is still widely used is due to its effectiveness. It works on the principle of activating or stimulating the body's natural capacity to heal itself. Through very thin needle insertions, specific meridians of the body will allow a much more open flow of energy. Develop Your Mind - The Benefits of Word Puzzles

By      Expert Author Liron Franco

Mind Puzzles Brain Teasers
Brainteaser mind puzzles enforce the brain to think. The puzzles help to give you the ability to solving problems easier. Each day that you enjoy a mind puzzle, the more chances you will have at improving your overall abilities and skills. To help you appreciate brainteasers we can give you a few pointers to create your own mind puzzles.
How to create brainteasers:
Think of something fun, intelligent, stupid, and smart, etc and pull something together to create your own brainteaser.
Start:
What two words have commonalities with spool, drawer, and diaper?
Mind-boggler:
Loops - reward - repaid -
Do you see where the puzzle is heading? If you notice each word has "six letters" each. In addition, each word produces a different meaning and different word when you write the words backward.
Try some more:
What happens to people that dine in England get when they order broccoli?
England Answer: They get cauliflower.
What happens when you cross a lion with a pig?
Answer: you get the left over.
When you use mind puzzles it will help the brain think ahead, looking at all angles to solve the problem. The best way to solve mind puzzles is to look for clues. Most mind puzzles do have clues, yet some are hidden. Some require that you use common sense to figure out the puzzle. Puzzles come various sizes, styles, etc, including toys. You will also find puzzles in magazines, newspapers, and books. Each puzzle has interchanging effects on the brain. The puzzles will help keep your mind active, which your memory will improve too. Some puzzles form colors. The puzzles form colors to encourage the brain to concentrate by blending the colors in concert. Like optical illusion puzzles, if you twist and then turn, you can often figure out the puzzles quickly.
Some mind puzzles form as mazes to produce games. The puzzles force the mind to focus by working it from point A to point B and by pointing clues in a direction without giving you one way to get to point B.
Some other puzzles help you to build your vocabulary or learn math skills. You will also find puzzles that form letters and convert them into numbers. Each puzzle has a unique twist, which you must turn at all angles to find the answer to solve the puzzle.
Some more you:
Think of Africa: Do you know what large country would fit Africa inside it at least three times?
Answer: The United States of America
Does an airplane use more fuel when flying lower or higher?
Answer
When planes are higher in the air, the plane reduces it usage of fuel, since the higher elevation thins the air and the plane has fewer fight against the wind.
You can enjoy most puzzles. Some are confusing, yet if you look for clues, you will discover the answer in most instances. Some puzzles however have not been solved for the past 150 years. These puzzles often make up Cryptography mind puzzles.
The vocabulary, mind-building puzzles are my favorite. The vocabulary, mind building puzzles, give you many angles to consider and you can create vocabularies by focusing on a single word, looking at the word front to back, side to side, and diagonally.
Builder:
Confrontation - refusal - challenge - defiance - battle - surrender - disagreement
Think about the words for a few minutes and see what the words have in common. Next, start with the first word, extract letters from the word, and start building new words from the letters. Remember to move back, front, and diagonally. For example, confrontation - on - no - front - con - frat - tat - Ron - ton - keep working through until you have a new vocabulary built-up.

High IQ And The Thirst For Knowledge

By        Expert Author Lance Winslow

Einstein once said that curiosity was his friend and his memory was a faithful servant. Okay so, what's more important; the question or the answer? Well, my friend I will submit to you, it depends on who you ask. For if the person you ask is you, then the question is more important, because the simple asking of a question sends you on a journey to seek out the answer and discover new things, for which more questions emerge. This is how an active high IQ mind works. Let's talk shall we?
You see, this topic came up a couple of years ago at our think tank, and Mark who is a genius in his own right told me; "I have no idea why my mind wants to have all this information. I've always been curious my whole life but I never thought that just a simple trip outside would require so much thought."
It doesn't 'require' so much thought, but his mind enjoys the process, so it just runs away with it. Nothing wrong with taking curiosity and coupling it with imagination - plus belief, creating a world within a world, hey did you see the movie "Limitless" and "Inception" kind of reminds me of all that, with a little "Matrix" in the mix - pretty cool.
To my reader so you can follow along, here is some advice to get into the curiosity mode. You might try this; pick up package, read the ingredients then try to back imagine the supply chain, from the crops in the field, to the tractors used, to the rubber, steel, and hydraulic systems on it, to who made them, where did the come from, to the iron ore mines, to the rubber vulcanization plant, to the GPS maker running the electronic hardware inside the combine harvesting the wheat, to the seeds, the labs designing the seeds, to the BMW the guy in the lab drives, to his home, his college aged kids, their friends, and their family, to the lady standing next to you. How many degrees of separation is she, are you, from that product you are holding in your hands?
That's what I do. I look at people and put together their life stories, guess their profession, what brought them there, what they are thinking, based on body language, facial expressions, clothes, shoes, etc. It is amazing how good you can get at this, and what if you went into their life a little more, asked them questions and found out you were dead on in your estimation? It happens to me all the time.
Try this too on your next walk, look at a commercial building imagine the inside, layout, furniture. How accurate do you think your projections are of the room, lighting, temperature, air flow, furniture of those rooms, buildings, businesses are as you walk down the street? You might be surprised how close your estimates are. Maybe there is a possibility to ride a brain wave onto the photons flowing through the window? Next, enter the building see how close your predictions are, hone your skills, and refine your predictions and probability judgments in your mind, it will be easy to remember when you were wrong and when you were right.
Try it, you will be amazed - curiosity is a wonderful attribute for a high IQ, fast processing mind.

A Possible Cure For Stupidity

By      Expert Author David Samuel

There are many reasons for an adult to be stupid. This article will focus on one particular type of person who is deemed stupid because of their irresponsibility, forgetfulness, incompetence and anything that is similar to which you may identify as behaving like a five year old.
The question I have been pondering is why a reasonably intelligent adult, meaning someone capable of supporting themselves and living independently cannot be trusted to do the simplest things and forgets little instructions or details, or is consistently clumsy.
How can someone be capable of working on a computer, doing technical tasks, have a reasonably intelligent conversation, yet repeatedly forget simple tasks or details in instructions.
This of course is not a universal explanation that covers all humans who are this way, but I think it does cover many. Only you can determine if you, or someone you know, would fit in this classification and then with what we will say here, can help improve their apparent intelligence.
Yes, I am rather rude and blunt in my use of the word 'stupid' but I am just verbalizing what everyone else is thinking.
If you have ever owned or managed a retail store, or have been a customer, you know what I am talking about when you have the frustrating luck to deal with someone who is just so stupid your mouth is hanging open in disbelief.
And now that we have established the type of person we are discussing, let's move on to the explanation of why they can be so stupid at times. Please use this information as a guide for you to test my theory with each of these people you interact with, or in review of your own actions if you accept you are, or are viewed, as a stupid person.
When this person is told to do the simplest things, for example told to tie their shoe laces, they tend to get upset. They are insulted that as an adult, they are being told the simplest things that they should be able to do themselves. It could be that you ask that person to do a simple errand for you, and after telling them three times, you also write down the instructions such as to tell the laundromat to use a perfume free soap instead of the standard strong perfume.
They get upset and feel insulted, undermined, and basically fight back saying they are not a child and can remember that without the need of a note.
The end result, as many of you have experienced, is getting very perfumed cloths. "I told you three times, I wrote it on the paper with the cloths, how could you get such a simple thing wrong!"
My discovery is; because they got so insulted and felt you are treating them like an idiotic five year old, that their mind shuts down and does not hear the instructions or forgets in rebellion. Thus they enforce your opinion of their stupidity.
When you tell a five year old to take something and they refuse, you then say; "I am not going to let you have it." And of course, the child immediately demands to have it.
When you tell one of these 'adults' to do something that they take as an insulting instruction implying they are stupid, their mind rebells and says; "I don't want it." referring to the instructions. And since they have rejected it like a child, it never reaches their mind, and you know the results.
They screw up, they look and effectively are stupid, and both of you know it. Their self-esteem drops to yet a lower level, and they maintain their reputation of being stupid and irresponsible.
Now let's work towards a solution.
Nothing can be done by anyone other than the person with the problem themselves. The first step is for the stupid person to accept that they are effectively as stupid and childish as a five year old. By refusing to accept that that is their actual level of maturity with its rebellious nature to anything perceived as an insult, they can never change. It is a rejection of reality in place of living in a self-lie which always makes things worse.
After this first step, the normal human reaction is that they will reject this obvious truth by listing all the things they can do well, thus attempting to prove they are not that stupid.
One good action does not eliminate a bad one. Do NOT do this. Just accept the bad action without diverting your attention to a good one so you can ignore the bad one.
We return to the first step of total acceptance of the immaturity and childish nature regardless of physical age.
The proof is that you have a reputation because of your consistent actions. Thus just accept it, you are stupid.
Next, you must hold yourself back from responding either verbally or internally mentally, and when you feel insulted, to remind yourself that despite your desire or opinion that you are smart, the evidence of peoples opinion of you is more valid. If ten people think you are irresponsible, and you or maybe 2 people think you are great, the majority vote is likely correct.
Remind yourself of this every time you feel you are being insulted or undermined or ridiculed by being treated like an immature child.
This will naturally make you feel hopeless, inferior and destroy any threads of self-esteem you have and trigger an infinite flow of self-deprecation. Counter this with the hope and joy knowing that if you would finally accept the problem as it is, there is a clear and simple path to conquering this problem and transforming your mind into a reasonably intelligent and responsible person.
And that really is all it takes. The acceptance of the problem, the acceptance of the cause of the problem, and the willingness to stop acting like a child and refusing to accept that you simply are stupid. There is nothing wrong with that, because the cause of your stupidity is your rejection of being treated at the level to which you behave.
This will open your mind to accept every simple instruction as its given because you will accept that you deserve to be treated that way since you forget the simplest things, and then you will probably get things right because you will be open minded and paying more attention. Eventually, your reputation will change to a person who does what they are told impeccably, and you can finally grow up.
