Chinese Herbal Medicine - A Natural Alternative

By

Chinese herbal medicine is a health care system which has been around since ancient times. It is also known by the acronym CHM. As the causes of illness that afflict mankind have evolved in time, CHM has also undergone developments continuously. Along with modern medicine, state hospitals in China use herbal medicine for various ailments and diseases.
All forms of diseases can be treated by Chinese herbal medicine. The traditional view in Chinese herbal medical system is to prevent diseases before they occur.
The majority of the world population uses Chinese herbal medicine since ancient times and it still is the most extensively used medical system. In comparison to commonly produced pharmaceutical drugs, Chinese herbal medicine rarely gives an adverse reaction.
Depending upon the disease’s severity the duration of the medication is expanded to get the best results and cure. Allergies, digestive disorders, respiratory conditions pertaining to respiratory tracks, immune system disorders, pain, problems due to psychological disorders, children’s diseases and gynecological problems can be effectively treated using Chinese herbal medicines. Find more info at [http://www.onlinepharmacyresource.info]
People of all ages and constitution can take Chinese herbal medical treatment. Symptoms of current illness and previous history will be taken into consideration by the practitioner before prescribing the medicine. Even pregnant women and children can be given treatment using Chinese herbal medicines.
Traditional and modern versions of Chinese herbal medicines are available in number of formats. At first the unusual taste of the herbal medicine will be difficult to adjust to, but quickly the patients will get used to the taste. Chinese herbal treatment does not have any standard price structure. Nowadays many health insurance companies are covering herbal treatment too.
Colonic dialysis therapy is a form of treatment in Chinese herbal medicine which enables the body to eliminate toxins effectively and quickly and helps to overcome addictions.
PLA Institute of Drug Dependence Treatment and Rehabilitation is doing research to observe the effects of using colonic dialysis therapy in persons addicted to heroin and to find out whether this treatment can help them abstain from the craving for heroin.
An evaluation of an ancient Chinese remedy for dermatitis was done by doctors at the Royal Free Hospital in London. A mixture of 10 herbs was prescribed to a group of forty adult patients with longstanding and widespread atopic dermatitis in a trial which lasted 5 months. Over an eight week period each patient was randomly allocated to receive either the herbal remedy or a similar tasting placebo. This was followed by a four week wash-out period. 31 patients completed the study and showed a continued and rapid improvement in the extent of redness of skin (erythema) and surface damage during the time they were taking the prescribed Chinese herbal medicine. The research concluded that the remedy is effective in treating adult atopic dermatitis.

A New Perspective on Medicine

By

Society increasingly resorts to pharmaceuticals as a means of alleviating pain, treating infection and illness, yet many of these synthetic drugs have long lists of side-effects. What the world doesn't know is the potency of natural remedies. Thus, medical coverage is not universal, and this precipitates the need for holistic treatments. Near Eastern medicine has largely been dismissed in favor of pharmaceuticals, in the process discarding millennia of medical knowledge. What can be cured with crushed clovers is now replaced with ibuprofen. This is one of the biggest flaws in our "universal" health care system. I developed a medical journal over last year's spring break, and I have been expanding it ever since, adding holistic remedies used in place of synthetic drugs to treat a variety of ailments. Not only would this restore almost-forgotten medical knowledge, but it would also encourage a peaceful relationship between Muslims and other Near Eastern communities during a time when such peaceful relationships are vital.
How long are we to remain ignorant of these things? Yes, perhaps medications and OTC drugs are much more efficient and work faster, but what happens to our appreciation for medical literature and the equivalent of a millennium of medical knowledge? Are they to be discarded? Thrown away?
This is something that we, as a society, have to work toward, one step at a time.
Recently, I put this to use. A few days ago, on January 6th, 2018 at about 9pm, my father indicated he was experiencing some discomfort in his right eye. Curious, I took a high resolution photo of the eye in question, in a slightly supine position. I analyzed the picture and discovered an irregular growth/inflammation in the right, upper eyelid. I do recall studying and reading about various eye infections and irregular growths in a few of my classes in school, such as conjunctivitis ("pink eye"), myasthenia gravis, and blepharitis. I came to conclude that the symptoms that my father was experiencing were characteristic of what is commonly called "stye". In stye, the eyelid is usually slightly red, almost looking like it was trying to develop into a minor for of blepharitis. I asked myself and my dad, "Perhaps this stye was the cause of lack of sleep? I asked this because a few blood vessels in his right eye were slightly bulging. "No", he replied. I read and researched about stye online. Just before my mom got up to go to the pharmacy to get him a few OTC's, I read that stye could be cured through ONE SIMPLE TECHNIQUE: HEAT.
I told my father to apply heat (best option) so that the inflammation in the idea and whatever bacteria in there can dissociate (if that's the right word). He held a soaked, hot towel ABOVE his right eye (notice: he did not necessarily have to TOUCH his eye with the towel). He held it for 6-8 minutes and repeated this until the pain subsided. The next day, he performed the same procedure. After just two days routinely practicing the same procedure (WITHOUT MEDICATION), my father's eyelid returned back to its normal color and shape.
So there you have it.
Certain things CAN be cured by simply holistic, natural remedies. We like to think that doctors, physicians, pharmacists, etc. are "in charge" of Medicine. Not necessarily. Medicine can start at home, with us. One step at a time.

The Psychology of Laughter

By               Expert Author Saberi Roy

On the perspectives of laughter, why humans laugh and how laughter creates healthy optimism.
Laughter is an essential aspect of human life. A psychological theory of laughter will consider the biology or brain activity involved in laughter and the associated emotions or expressions that accompany laughter. Why do some people laugh more often than others? Why do some people only giggle whereas some others will laugh loudly or heartily? Some people with more active self-control may find it difficult or even odd to laugh too loudly. Some people may find it very enjoyable to make others laugh whereas some others like to laugh themselves and like it when others make them laugh
Laughter is essentially healthy and health experts recommend laughing exercises because when facial muscles are exercised, the respiratory system gets a boost, the brain and heart also benefit from the exercise and the level of optimism created in your mind is essentially translated into physical well-being. So, when you laugh it creates optimism and you feel happy and emotionally healthy. When you are emotionally healthy and optimistic, you are able to laugh and this creates a healthy cycle of emotions
Laughter is itself not a positive emotion but an expression and facilitates positive emotions and laughter is also caused by positive emotions.
When babies cry, you tickle them or dangle toys so that they immediately forget the negative emotion and start laughing and feel good. So, happiness being so important in life, laughter is equally important as we express our happiness with laughter. Babies are more innocent and will express their happiness quickly after bouts of crying. Adults are a bit more controlled and calculating, they may not express their happiness or positive emotions by laughing after depressive bouts or periods of sadness.
Some of the questions (and answers) psychologists must develop are:
Why do people laugh?
What are the brain mechanisms or brain activities involved in laughter?
Why do some people laugh out loud and others are more controlled?
What are the health benefits of laughter?
How does the body respond to laughing?
Why do some people like to make others laugh whereas some others are happy when others make them laugh?
Laughter has a complex psychological dynamic. You may love to laugh or make others laugh and comedians are people who like to keep their audience in control, so they enthrall and enliven people around them with jokes. When you can make other people laugh, you have power and control over their emotions, so laughter is not as simple as it seems. It involves a significantly complex psychological dynamic.
Think of comedians like Charlie Chaplin or Seinfeld. They have intense psychological control over their audience and that kind of control is power. Making others laugh will ultimately give you a sense of power, although comedians make others laugh because they release their energetic wits through their jokes. Energetic wit is creative expression and some people are compelled to create jokes and engage their audience in laughing fits.
Laughter is not just about biology but psychological expression as well so a study of laughter or even s strange study on the history of laughter could help psychologists to understand how laughter developed in humans, and how psychological expressions of laughter helped develop positive emotions, creative expressions and brought together societies and communities. In ancient times, street performers made people laugh and this type of vocation exists even today. Street performers crack jokes and make a living by making people laugh and it is part of entertainment.
Read my psychology of entertainment to understand how entertainment has a positive effect on society. Laughter is also fundamentally essential for human health, well-being and longevity. The happier you are, the longer you will live.
The Biological basis of Laughter
There isn't much history of laughter before the 1960s when researchers started studying the benefits of laughter. Laughter releases endorphins, which are natural pain relievers or analgesics and laughter helps in killing pain inside the body. Laughter triggers positive emotions and stimulation of the hypothalamus and amygdala and researchers have pointed out that these positive emotions have beneficial effects on the body. Psychology must continue to conduct longitudinal studies to find the long-term effects of laughter on human health. The medicinal effects of laughter must also be studied more thoroughly. If you laugh three hours a day for a year, will that relieve arthritis or other kind of physical pain? What impact does laughter have on facial muscles? Do you experience accelerated ageing or wrinkles when you laugh?
The Psychological basis of Laughter
Laughter creates positive emotions and aids in health, longevity and long-term well-being. Some psychologists and therapists have come up with innovative ideas such as laughter therapy, laughing club, etc. Laughter may have physical respiratory benefits but finally it is the psychological benefits that will matter. The positive emotions created by laughter is contagious and laughter among team members can aid in increase of energy and accomplishments within a team.
The Philosophical basis of Laughter
There isn't much philosophical analysis on laughter. Early Stoic and even Greek philosophers considered public laughter as unnecessary or avoidable. Although in ancient times court jesters regularly performed to make people laugh and ancient kings had jesters or comedians to entertain the people. Laughter in early days was primarily a form of entertainment rather than psychological therapy. But entertainment does have its psychological value, so an activity that was only entertainment is now known for its therapeutic attributes. This change in our perspective on laughter is interesting and the value of laughter will only increase with more discovery.
The Literary basis of Laughter
The literary or historical basis of Laughter shows that laughter, humor and satire were interrelated and early satirists and humorists, for instance Voltaire used laughter to influence people's political motives and decisions. Humor and satire were political tools and laughter has always motivated people in specific directions. So laughter has been used for different purposes in history from entertainment, political or social motivation of masses to therapeutic and health reasons in contemporary times.
There are also many types of laughter, which I will not elaborate here, but types of laughter depends on the expressions, emotions involved, the social or cultural customs and individual personality. Mental illness also affects the type of laughter and some mentally ill people will have unusual laughter.
Students and researchers of psychology must ideally study the types of laughter prevalent in cultures, among certain personalities and how expressions through laughter have changed over time. Researchers must also study the history of laughter, the social customs associated with laughter, connections between humor, satire and laughter from a literary and historical perspective and the transformation of laughter from a purely entertainment based activity to a therapeutic tool with significant health benefits.

How To Stop Struggling With The Fall and Winter Blues

By                Expert Author Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

When the days get shorter, thousands of people are dreading the effects the darker nights seem to engender. Does your mood and overall wellbeing seemingly feel wabbly or fragile when daylight hours are shorter?
In the U.S. an estimated 10 million people are affected by shorter daylight hours. Another 10 percent to 20 percent may be mildly affected. This syndrome is referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D) S.A.D is four times more common in women than in men. Around 7 percent of UK adults struggle with S.A.D.
Reduced exposure to sunlight impacts some people to feel less energetic or lethargic - and some people are severely affected by everything from their work performance to their relationships.
As a Metaphysician/Hypnosis practitioner I receive a dramatic increase in the number of people seeking help, sometimes unrelated to the shorter daylight hours. There is a root cause for this trend. There are holistic protocols specifically tailored to each person to assist them to overcome those issues.
I am offering a 4-week weekly session to address your issues to transform/ transmute what prompts your trend to have a S.A.D. episode. In the 4-week period, you will log your experiences that will be incorporated into your tailored, hypnotherapy-based protocols. Such activities as meditation and a 'gratitude board' aimed at helping you to identify and focus on the positive aspects of your life and living, in order to overcome the feelings of loss and struggle.
People who struggle with S.A.D are thought to be sensitive to insufficient exposure to sunlight that also results in their bodies not producing enough of the feel-good hormone serotonin, and thus their tiredness is often coupled with depression. Artificial light boxes and visors are one of the most common treatments for this sensitivity. It often helps to ease the symptoms, although some cases have been linked to side effects like nausea.
However, hypnotherapy can also be very effective, by transforming/transmuting the negative thoughts and focusing on the positive aspects of the autumn and winter season. Also, introducing affirmative actions like meditation into their daily routines. "When someone is sensitive to light deprivation, it can become a recurring circle for them. If they've felt at a low ebb before, they will start to dread the nights drawing in, because they will immediately associate them with feelings ranging from low spirit to claustrophobia, agoraphobia, and overwhelming tiredness.
"By taking someone through techniques to re-set their mindset, hypnotherapy can change someone's whole outlook during the darker nights which compels them to feel much better. I use methods like meditation and visualization, thus, helping people to focus on all the pleasant things they associate with the changing of the seasons - from cozy nights in with the family to wrapping up warm and taking a brisk walk. Our minds are incredibly powerful organs and we can train them to think any way we want them to - including having positive feelings about the Autumn and Winter months."
I've decided to set up a 4-week weekly session special offer because, many people are contacting me, lamenting about feeling low at this time of the year. I want to assist people to understand what might be causing it. For example, are particular trends in the weather affecting how bad they feel; are people working longer hours and the pressure of that is making their mood even more intense, or are there some other factors at play? I also want to help people to improve how they feel, and at the same time, with their help, hone the techniques for transforming/transmuting S.A.D, so that I can help even more people in the future.
Anyone interested in taking part in my special S.A.D hypnotherapy process can contact me at 480-794-1561, Skype, Google Hangout, or drdorothy@drdorothy.net for more information. More details of my work, in general, are available at https://drdorothy.net

5 Common Mistakes Yoga Practitioners Make

By                   Expert Author Yogi Vipul

So you have decided to learn Yoga and meditation to improve your life. You have made one of the best decisions of your life. Yoga is an amazing philosophy that teaches you how to unite your body and mind with your soul. Yoga philosophy is originally given by an Indian sage called Patanjali who wrote Yoga Sutras. People start learning yoga with a lot of enthusiasm but somehow lose hope in the middle. Sometimes they make many mistakes, which hinder their progress in the spiritual path. Any yoga aspirant must be aware of certain basic things that are important for success in the spiritual path.
Anyone joining Yoga TTC must be aware of these most common myths in order to succeed in his daily practice.
We list down 5 common mistakes that Yoga practitioners should be aware of -
  1. Becoming too ambitious - It is quite common and natural to become overly ambitious and expect a lot of success right away. But this is actually a recipe for disaster. By becoming too zealous and ambitious, you tend to make huge expectations for yourself. By setting unrealistic expectations, you tend to become disappointed when you are unable to achieve them. Hence, any yoga aspirant must learn to stay realistic and avoid becoming too anxious while starting to learn Yoga.

  2. Setting Unrealistic Expectations - We naturally tend to set unrealistic expectations for ourselves, especially in the beginning. We tend to overestimate our progress and start expecting too much too early. This is only a recipe for disaster. When you are unable to meet expectations, you lose hope and become disappointed. Hence, you must always set realistic expectations for yourself in order to get success in your yogic path.

  3. Learn Only From Books - This is one of the most common mistakes that people make. Many people forget the importance of a true Guru and try to learn everything on their own. Although there isn't any problem in self-learning, learning only by self, and not from a guru can backfire. As you practice Yoga Asanas, you need expert help to get the postures right. Any wrong move can cause serious physical damage. Hence, in addition to self-study, you must always learn from an experienced Yoga teacher.

  4. Only Focus on Basic Asanas - Generally, people get stuck with the basic Asanas and not try to learn the more advanced Asanas. You must always learn Yoga in entirety, and not just get satisfied with the Asanas and postures. Yoga is a system that teaches a person to attain self-realization. Yoga is not only about learning body postures or asanas. Although Asanas is just one of the eight parts of Yoga, Yoga, essentially, is about achieving self-realization. By steady and detailed practice, one can gradually move up the spiritual ladder and attain enlightenment.

  5. Not Be Sincere in Your Practice - Many people learn yoga to start a business or other selfish reasons. Although the demand for yoga has increased substantially in the recent years, people must not lose the essence of Yoga. Yoga is not only about learning asanas and improving physical fitness. Actually, Yoga is about achieving self-realization.
Learning Yoga can be an exciting journey for you. Although learning yoga is not easy, it is totally worth its time and effort. However, a person must stay patient and honest during his practice and avoid becoming too complacent. Although you can learn through self-study or a Guru is really helpful in realizing the true benefits of Yoga.

What Makes a Meditation Practitioner an Excellent Student to Teach Yoga for Wellness?

By

I have many friends in my circle who have practiced yoga seriously for decades without practising any yoga poses. My story is somewhat similar. I am always curious about how a person discovered yoga.
Meditation - An Inner Limb of Yoga
Many years ago I meditated and played with a yoga meditation group. I use the word "play" because even though meditation is seen as serious, we chose fun and fulfilling activities that morphed us into a service community. The experience was very fulfilling mentally and spiritually and we never practised yoga poses as a group.
In those youthful days we sat cross-legged on the floor easily and comfortably. So let me correct that statement about not practising yoga poses as a group. That ability to sit still on the floor and to stand upright and still I consider not one but two yoga poses!
One activity the group embraced was the generation of inspirational thoughts, big ideas, or provoking questions. Each day a new thought was written on a blackboard outside the meditation center and many stopped to imbibe drops of inspiration.
Recently a fellow meditator recalled her story about starting yoga, sharing, "I was feeling a loss, that something was missing in my life. I passed the virtue board each day, read it and it gave comfort, food for thought." She revealed that this was when she started analysing life instead of just existing day-to-day. She began to travel that route to work just to "read a board a stranger put out". Curiosity led her to the meditation center. That visit started her journey with meditation and strangers became her friends - a community.
The Meditator - A Promising Therapeutic Yoga Teacher
What would make a meditator with little or no experience with poses a good candidate to teach yoga for wellness? Although there are many benefits I will highlight three that lead me to this conclusion.
More receptive mind: This means having an increased ability to focus and concentrate. What a fertile environment for learning!
Less reactivity: Another valuable jewel in the jewelry box of the meditator is the ability to put some distance between herself and an emotion. She is less reactive to situations and people. This power can be seen as the ability to accept uncomfortable states without reacting automatically. That's benefit two.
Less stressed: From time to time situations that create stress pop up in a learning group. Someone with a more reactive nervous system experiences its fight/flight/freeze response more often and anxiety and depression. Learning requires receptivity. Benefit number three is the experience of less stress and more receptivity.
With a state of readiness and a willingness to learn and teach basic poses, in my opinion a meditator is indeed eligible to undertake therapeutic yoga teacher training.
Heather Greaves is an avid yoga student, yoga therapist and the owner of Body Therapies Yoga Training. She facilitates mini yoga and meditation retreats and workshops in Ontario and Barbados, and has been helping yoga enthusiasts learn to teach therapeutic yoga in a certified program. This Protein Could Signal Early Death

Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola
December 04, 2019

 Story at-a-glance

  • Troponin is a protein responsible for helping to regulate contractions in skeletal and heart muscle. After comparing blood levels and age, data revealed a slight raise in all age groups increased the risk of early death, and those who were 18 to 29 years old had a tenfold higher potential risk
  • High levels in people without a diagnosis of heart attack also had a higher risk of early death; high levels of troponin may be found after sepsis, stroke, pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease and chemotherapy
  • Symptoms of a heart attack are not always obvious, but immediate treatment improves the rate of survival and reduces the risk of heart muscle damage from lack of oxygen; women may experience different symptoms including anxiety, back pain, heartburn or extreme fatigue
  • One study showed 70% of heart attacks could be prevented by eating a healthy diet, getting exercise, maintaining a normal BMI, not smoking and other health lifestyle choices. It is important to know your risk factors and take quick action even if you only feel like you might be having a heart attack
Statistics from the American Heart Disease 2019 update shows cardiovascular disease (CVD) is still the leading cause of death, although the rate decreased by 18.6% from 2006 to 2016.1 Despite this reduction, 1.05 million people were expected to have a coronary event in 2019, including 720,000 first time and 335,000 recurrent events.
Nearly every 40 seconds someone has a heart attack or a stroke. In 2014-2015 the annual financial burden for CVD was estimated at $351.2 billion. In the survey, the data showed awareness of the symptoms of a heart attack was low.2
This has a negative impact on early diagnosis and treatment of a heart attack, which is linked to a higher potential for survival and return to normal activities when more of the heart muscle can be saved.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,3 nearly 47% of sudden cardiac death happens outside of a hospital, which suggests people may be unaware they have heart disease, or they don't act on early warning signs of a heart attack.
Those at greater risk of a cardiac event include people who have other medical conditions such as diabetes or practice specific lifestyle choices, such as eating a poor diet, excessive alcohol use, smoking or lack of physical activity.

Potential Health Hazards of Eyelash Extensions

Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola
December 07, 2019

 Story at-a-glance

  • Eyelash extensions, individually bonded with glue to existing eyelashes, can invite mites called Demodex to set up residence in your eyelashes
  • Demodex, aka eyelash lice, can cause redness, inflammation, blood shot eyes and blocked oil glands, and can contribute to conditions like blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis and blepharokeratitis
  • Demodex can be confused with blepharitis, but the treatments are completely different and, unlike blepharitis, Demodex can spread to others
  • Demodex is often explained by lack of hygiene since eyelash extension wearers sometimes keep them on for weeks, fearing that washing will cause the lashes to fall out
  • To treat a Demodex buildup medical professionals recommend tea tree oil, which patients can use at home

The Top 6 Phytochemicals Found in Food

By               Expert Author Bonnie R Giller

There's quite a bit of buzz around phytochemicals in food. Phytochemicals, also known as phytonutrients, are naturally occurring chemicals found in plants (hence the phyto-). They are the compounds that give fruits and vegetables their vibrant variety of colors, smells, and tastes. With the rainbow of vegetables you see regularly, you can imagine how many types of phytochemicals there are!
Phytochemical Basics
There are literally thousands of phytochemicals out there, and scientists are busy studying their potential benefits. Since you aren't a plant, the only way to reap the benefits of phytochemicals is to eat a diet full of a variety of types of fruits and vegetables.
There are 6 phytochemicals scientists have spent the most effort researching:
1. BETA CAROTENE is found in orange-colored and dark green leafy vegetables. Beta-carotene is critical for eye health and also plays a key role in maintaining a healthy and strong immune system.
2. LYCOPENE is the red pigment found in tomatoes, pink grapefruit, watermelon, raspberries, and strawberries. It's a powerful antioxidant and is linked to reduced prostate cancer risk. Lycopene is better absorbed after it's been cooked, such as in tomato sauce.
3. LUTEIN is found in green leafy vegetables, such as kale and spinach, as well as in cruciferous vegetables, such as Brussel sprouts and broccoli. Like beta-carotene, lutein is critical for eye health and may help prevent macular degeneration.
4. RESVERATROL has been making the news with its antioxidant properties for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and decreasing overall systemic inflammation. Have you heard how dark chocolate and red wine are healthy? That's because they're good sources of resveratrol.
5. ISOFLAVONES block estrogen from entering cells, possibly lowering the risk of ovarian and breast cancer, as well as protecting against heart disease by reducing blood clotting and cholesterol levels. Soy foods are high in isoflavones, but they're also found in other legumes.
6. ANTHOCYANIDINS are the deep red and blue-purple pigments in blueberries, blackberries, red onions, and radishes, to name just a few. Anthocyanidins help maintain a healthy circulatory system.
Some lesser-known phytochemicals include:
• Saponins: Interfere with DNA replication, preventing cancer cells from multiplying. Found in beans, legumes, garlic, oats, and asparagus.
• Flavonoids: Inhibit the aggregation and adhesion of platelets in the blood; inhibits the oxidation of LDL. Found in orange and grapefruit juice, tea, onions, soy, and red wine.
• Allyl sulfides: Stimulate enzymes that detoxify cancer-causing substances; cholesterol-lowering and anti-hypertensive heart health functions. Found in vegetables in the onion family, such as onions, garlic, leeks, chives, and shallots.
• Indoles: Increase the conversion of estrogen to its inactive form, possibly reducing breast cancer risk. Found in brassica vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kohlrabi.
• Quercetin: Acts as an anti-inflammatory and can relieve allergies and fight infection. Found in tomatoes, oregano, apples, onions, and lettuce
In Conclusion
You probably don't need even more scientific research to tell you a diet rich in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and legumes is the best bet for good health, but phytochemicals are another reason to ensure you're eating a wide variety of different foods. Is TRUVIA a Safe and Healthy Alternative to Sugar?

By              Expert Author Karen Bentley

Truvia is a non-caloric sweetener. It's a "blend" type product made with three ingredients: 1) erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol, 2) stevia leaf extract, which is an herb, and 3) natural flavors, more on this in later on.
Truvia is marketed as a "natural" product, but this is deceiving because anything that's derived from a plant or animal source can be called natural. That means caloric sweeteners like sugar and HFCS are natural, too. What's confusing for most consumers is the fact that the term natural has absolutely nothing to do with processing. The product can be processed to death and still be natural.
Erythritol, for example, is a chemically extracted and fermented substance derived from corn. Since erythritol comes from corn it can legally be called natural, but it's still a highly processed substance. Erythritol is about 1/2 as sweet as table sugar and belongs to a class of substances known as sugar alcohols. Most, but not all, sugar alcohols are easily identified by the "ol" at the end of the name. Erythritol is the least objectionable of all the sugar alcohols because it causes the least digestive problems. Other sugar alcohols can make you cramp, fart and poop a lot. Erythritol is different because it's made through a fermentation process rather than a hydrogenation process, and the hydrogenation process seems to be the source of the digestive problems.
Stevia leaf extract is just.05% of one serving of Truvia. That's not much, but Cargill gets to make a pretty big deal out of the fact that it's using a natural herb in it's product. The stevia plant has naturally sweet leaves that taste a bit like licorice. In the olden days, 10 or so years ago, stevia was a highly regulated substance that was mistakenly feared to be carcinogenic. You could only get it in health food stores in the form of crushed leaves (that look a bit like oregano) or as a liquid. Once Cargill and the other big food manufacturers got into the act, stevia got mainstreamed into grocery store products as a healthier and more desirable alternative to sugar.
And lastly, the term "natural flavors" is a catch-all phrase where small quantities of any substance can be included in a product without being listed as an ingredient. A non-caloric sweetening agent called Neotame is a suspicious substance that's often included as a natural flavor. Neotame is a mega powerful artificial sweetener that's in the same family as aspartame, an excitotoxin. (FYI, Excitotoxins over stimulate and kill brain cells.) In fact, Neotame is so very potent that only the tiniest bit of it needs to be included to have a sweetening effect. This is important because stevia and erythritol aren't really all that sweet.
So is Truvia a safe and reasonable choice? Sure. It's not a toxic substance, but like any sweetening agent it might be a digestive irritant. This will be immediately obvious to you right after you use it. Pregnant women, infants and young children, and any one with neurological problems should avoid Truvia and any other alternative sweetening agent. For everyone else, the best advice is to limit the daily consumption of Truvia to 2 tablespoons per day. Got it? Just 2 tablespoons.

Proverbs 7:17 - "I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon,"

John 19:39-40 to 39 -" He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[a] 40 Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs."
During the time of Alexander The Great the peoples of Greece also knew of aloe plants health benefits, especially for healing wounds. Aristotle persuaded Alexander to invade the Island of Socotra to secure its abundant aloe groves so that the aloe vera juice they contained could be used to heal the wounds of Alexanders vast army. Alexander went to the extent of having transportable carts of planted Aloe for practical reasons in order to have fresh supplies at the ready during his numerous battle campaigns.

Why MSM May Be The Best Supplement You Will Ever Take!

By

So you may be thinking, what is MSM?
MSM is an abbreviation for Methyl-Sulphonyl-Methane which is a pure, organic sulphur compound.
Not surprisingly, sulphur is a major compound found in the human body (3rd largest nutrient) and is also found in many foods that we consume.
There are a myriad of reasons why you need to be taking MSM, not to mention joint health and improved flexibility, as an antioxidant booster, anti-aging and energy booster (it is found in over 150 compounds in our body with Sulphur components in every part of our cells).
As always though you must remember that health and wellness needs to be treated from a holistic perspective and although MSM is extremely important to your health and wellness, there are other things you need to be doing to ensure it compliments adding MSM into your daily health regimen, for long term health and wellness.
Sulphur is becoming more widely acknowledged as a key nutrient without which many aspects of our bodies do not function correctly. Additionally, most of us are not getting enough Sulphur in our diet, so a supplement like MSM becomes a critical part of your daily nutrition.
Here's why:
1. We all have toxins in our bodies and Sulphur acts as a detox, ridding the body of toxins including heavy metals, which are becoming a real problem in our modern society. Sulphur has a role in the production of one of the most powerful antioxidants in our body, Glutathione. Without Sulphur, Glutathione cannot do its job, therefore, MSM assists the body's ability to make its own antioxidants.
2. Inflammation is one of the biggest issues facing the modern day human and has been recognised as a contributing factor in the development of cancer and degenerative disease. Sulphur acts as an anti-inflammatory.
3. MSM is known to increase the ratio between reduced glutathione and oxidative glutathione, meaning that with a greater amount of reduced glutathione, the body can deal more effectively with oxidative stress from free radicals.
Here are 5 ways that MSM can be of benefit to your body & overall health & wellness.
1. Bone/Joint Health
It is recognised the MSM does improve flexibility in the joints as well as improving conditions like arthritis, osteo arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It also contains calcium phosphate which not only has nutritional value, but helps to breakdown calcium deposits in the body that cause health issues including degenerative disease.
2. Important Source of Sulphur
As mentioned above, MSM is a key provider of Sulphur to our bodies which assists in the production of antioxidants and reduction of inflammation. Additionally, it is present in our amino acids which are the building blocks of protein.
3. MSM Can Detoxify
Again, we have already mentioned the benefit of taking MSM to detoxify your body. More specifically, it increases the permeability of your cells, which has a two-fold effect:
a. Better chance to cleanse the body of toxins
b. Improved capacity for your body to intake more nutrients
This leads to the improved function of your cell membranes.
4. Radiant Skin, Nails & Hair
MSM contains collagen and keratin and this means better skin, nails and hair. Why is this?
Keratin is a fibrous structural protein and as such is the key structural material that makes up hair, nails and the outer layer of human skin.
Collagen apart from being the major component of connective tissues that make up the skin also does the same for tendons, ligaments and muscles. It can also strengthen your bones.
Here are a number of conditions that MSM can help with:
• psoriasis
• eczema
• rosacea
• dermatitis
• acne
• dandruff.
5. Energy Multiplier
Because MSM increases the permeability of our cells, the cells require less energy to repel toxins. Add to this the fact that with less toxicity, the body can absorb more nutrients and requires less energy to digest the food. All very logical and straight forward really.
In conclusion, our bodies need MSM so that we can produce Glutathione which is a very powerful antioxidant that enables the expulsion of toxins including heavy metals. It is also an anti-inflammatory and can help with better skin, nails and hair, because of the keratin and collagen found in it. Add to that, the capacity for MSM to boost your energy and you have a powerful supplement that will have a positive impact on your health and wellness.

CoQ10 - Brain Health and Stroke Prevention Latest Studies Show

By        Expert Author Bruce Brightman

Brain: The brain requires a large supply of energy due to it being one of the most metabolically active organs in the body. This is needed for the brain to function optimally.
CoQ10 has been found to benefit the nervous system and protection from several types of diseases.
CoQ10 appears to alleviate oxidative stress, inflammation, and impaired mitochondrial functions when one has a head injury. The brain suffers from ongoing damage even after the initial trauma.
A study with rats with head injuries, CoQ10 protected mitochondria from damage and reduced cell death in the brain. These results show CoQ10 as a promising management strategy for head trauma in humans as well.
There are numerous nutritional supplements that can lend their expertise to support healthy brain function. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a naturally occurring vitamin-like substance found in every cell of the body, but whose levels naturally decrease as we age. CoQ10 is responsible for promoting heart health, increasing energy levels, and aiding the immune system as well as helping to keep blood pressure levels in normal range. CoQ10 comes in various forms, mostly related to absorption levels.
Strokes: Further studies showed that CoQ10 could perhaps lower the risk of a stroke. The patients studied that had had a stroke had significantly lower blood levels of CoQ10.
Heart Health: One recent study shows that 120 mg daily of CoQ10 alone (no statin drugs used) decreased blood pressure, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol.
Studies also show that patients with heart disease and heart failure histories that CoQ10 will protect their conditions. It is known to reduce incidents of serious cardiac events.
Statin drugs are believed to diminish CoQ10 levels in the body. That is why many doctors recommend that their patients increase their intake of CoQ10 if they are taking statins. CoQ10 also helps reduce the severity and occurrence of some of the side effects (most commonly muscle pain) of statin drugs.
By combining 200 mg of CoQ10 and 200 mcg of Selenium daily individuals showed a 41% reduction in cardiovascular-related mortality 12 years later.
CoQ10 is an ideal nutrient for all of us. It affects our energy and longevity, heart health, blood pressure, brain, gums, stomach, immune system, and much more. It is an enzyme found in almost all cells in the body, where it helps with the production of energy within the mitochondria. There is evidence that it can increase the volume of oxygen in the blood by as much as 15%.
Our cells require CoQ10 to function properly and without it, the cells perish. It is a strong anti-oxidant in both mitochondria and lipid membranes. CoQ10 is located exactly where the free-radicals are generated (in the mitochondria) during the oxidation of nutrients and the production of ATP, making it an important factor in slowing the aging process.
CoQ10 was discovered in 1957 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Enzyme Institute by Fred L. Crane and colleagues. Since 1960, universities and researchers have published over 1,600 articles in medical journals demonstrating CoQ10's benefits and importance. In 1978, Peter D. Mitchell won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his discovery of the significance of CoQ10 in energy production.
